Community Guidelines

Plain rules for a community built on respect, honesty and consent.

Version 2026-09-09

1. Who this community is for

Love in Babylon is a private community for adults who share Christian values and are looking for a serious relationship. You must be 18 or over. We ask for your date of birth when you sign up and the age check runs on our servers, so it cannot be skipped.

Membership is by application. A member of our staff reads every application and decides whether to approve it. Being here is a privilege extended by the community, not an automatic right.

We are a Christian community, but these Guidelines are about conduct, not doctrine. We do not police denominations, church attendance or theology, and we will not act on a report simply because someone believes differently from you.

2. Treat people with dignity

Speak to every member the way you would want someone to speak to your sister or brother. Warmth, patience and honesty are the default here.

Disagreement is welcome. Contempt, mockery, name-calling and public humiliation are not.

Silence is an answer. If someone does not reply, does not want to meet, or ends a conversation, accept it and move on without argument.

3. No harassment, bullying or intimidation

The following will be acted on:

  • Threats of any kind, including veiled ones.
  • Repeated unwanted contact after someone has stopped replying, said no, or blocked you.
  • Following someone between spaces, Courtyard, Gatherings, Table for Two, to keep pressing them.
  • Coercion, guilt-tripping, emotional blackmail or pressure to keep secrets.
  • Trying to reach someone through other members, or through accounts outside Love in Babylon, after they have withdrawn.

4. No hate or discrimination

Do not demean or attack anyone on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, immigration status, faith or denomination, gender, disability, appearance, age or family circumstances.

Slurs, dehumanising language and targeted pile-ons have no place here and will usually result in immediate removal.

5. Sexual safety

This is a courtship community, not a hook-up service.

  • No sexually explicit messages, photos, propositions or descriptions.
  • No sexual harassment, including unsolicited comments about someone's body.
  • Never pressure anyone into sexual conversation, images or activity.
  • Never share an intimate image or private message of another person without their permission. This applies whether or not the person is a member here.
  • Sexual exploitation of any kind, including offering or requesting anything sexual in exchange for money, gifts, travel or immigration help, ends membership permanently.

6. Consent and boundaries

Consent applies to everything, not just physical contact: photos, voice notes, video calls, meeting in person, introducing family, and how quickly a connection deepens.

Ask rather than assume, and check in as things progress. A yes to one thing is not a yes to the next thing, and anyone may change their mind at any point without explaining themselves.

If you feel your own boundary has been crossed, you can block, report, or simply leave the conversation. You owe no one a goodbye.

7. Be who you say you are

One account per person. Use recent photos that clearly show you, and keep your relationship status, age, location and intentions honest.

Do not impersonate another member, a host, or a member of our staff.

Photos you add are reviewed by our staff before they appear to others, and a photo can be rejected with a reason. That review is a check on content, not proof of identity; we do not run identity or background checks, so please still use your own judgement about who you are talking to.

8. No money, no selling, no scams

Never send money to another member, and never ask for it. No genuine member here needs your funds.

  • No requests for money, loans, gift cards, crypto, airtime, visa or travel costs, or help with an emergency.
  • No investment, trading or business opportunities.
  • No recruiting, fundraising, promoting a product, ministry or service, or spamming members with links.
  • No romance-scam patterns: fast-moving declarations, refusal to video call, then a crisis that needs money.
  • Report anyone who asks you for money, even if you are unsure. Reporting costs nothing and protects the next person.

9. Privacy of others

What is shared inside this community stays inside it.

  • Do not post another person's address, workplace, phone number, financial details, immigration status or family information.
  • Do not screenshot or repost someone's messages, photos, prayer requests or profile elsewhere.
  • Do not out anyone, or share what they told you in confidence, to embarrass or pressure them.

10. Nothing dangerous or illegal

Credible threats, incitement to violence, exploitation, trafficking, abuse, and any attempt to use this community to commit a crime are removed immediately and permanently.

Where there is a serious risk to someone's safety, we may need to share information with the authorities, as set out in our Privacy Policy.

11. Absolutely no minors

Love in Babylon is for adults aged 18 and over only.

Any sexual or romantic approach to a minor, any attempt to bring a person under 18 into this community, and any sexual content involving minors will end the account at once and may be referred to the authorities.

If you believe an account belongs to someone under 18, report it under 'Underage user'. We would far rather look at a report that turns out to be nothing.

12. Gatherings and meeting in person

Gatherings are created and curated by Love in Babylon, and a host may be assigned to run the session. A host's role is limited: they can mark who attended and start or end the live session. Hosts are not chaperones or security, and they do not read the private feedback you give afterwards.

Whether you meet online or in person, your safety is in your own hands and we cannot guarantee it.

  • Meet in a public place, arrange your own transport, and keep control of how you get home.
  • Tell someone you trust where you are going and who you are meeting.
  • A short video call before meeting is the kindest protection for both of you.
  • If something feels wrong, leave. Then block and report; you do not have to be certain to report.

13. Do not misuse the platform

These undermine everyone's safety and are treated seriously:

  • Creating a new account to get around a block, restriction, suspension or ban.
  • Using someone else's account, or letting someone use yours.
  • Filing reports you know to be false, or reporting someone repeatedly to harass them.
  • Trying to work out who reported you, or retaliating against someone you believe did.
  • Attempting to interfere with the service, scrape member information, or reach data you are not meant to see.

14. Reporting and blocking, what you can actually do

Blocking is immediate and silent. The person is not told. They can no longer see you or reach you anywhere in the community, and you no longer see them. Blocks work in both directions and can be undone from your Blocked members list.

Reporting sends the details to our safety staff. You can report a profile, a Courtyard post, a Table for Two conversation, or something that happened at a Gathering, and the context is attached automatically so we can see what you saw. The member you report is never told who reported them.

You can see the reports you have made, and their status, in your Safety Centre. Both controls live under Safety in your member area.

15. What happens when guidelines are broken

Reports are read and decided by a person on our staff, not by an automated system. We look at what was said, how serious it was, whether it was a one-off, and whether there is a pattern.

  • Hiding or removing content, or rejecting a photo.
  • A formal warning.
  • Restricting parts of the account.
  • Suspending the account.
  • Permanently ending membership.
  • Reinstating an account where a decision is overturned.

16. If you think we got it wrong

If your account has been restricted, suspended or ended, you can submit an appeal from inside the app. Tell us what happened in your own words. Appeals move through review to either upheld or declined, and you can see the status of yours at any time.

We try to be fair and we do change our minds. Decisions about who remains in the community are, in the end, ours to make.

17. Emergencies

Love in Babylon is not an emergency service. We do not monitor the community around the clock and we cannot respond to someone in immediate danger.

If you or anyone else is at risk right now, contact your local emergency services first. Report to us afterwards so we can act on the account.

18. How this fits with our other documents

These Guidelines sit alongside the Terms of Use, which are the agreement between you and us, and the Privacy Policy, which explains what we do with your information. Where the Terms and these Guidelines describe the same thing, they are meant to say the same thing; the Terms govern if they ever differ.

19. Getting in touch about safety

The report flow in your Safety Centre is the way to raise a safety concern with us. It reaches our safety staff directly and keeps the relevant context attached, which the general contact form cannot do.

20. Changes to these Guidelines

As the community grows, these Guidelines will change. Each version carries a date, and we will tell members when something materially changes. Continuing to use Love in Babylon after a change means these standards apply to you.

These Guidelines describe how our community is run. They are not legal advice and have not been reviewed by a lawyer.

To report a member or something you have seen, use the report flow in your Safety Centre. See also our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
