Terms of Use

The agreement between you and Love in Babylon when you apply for and use your membership.

Version 2026-09-11 · applies to accounts created or consents recorded from this version onward

1. About these Terms

These Terms of Use are the agreement between you and Love in Babylon (LIB). They apply whenever you visit the site, apply for membership, or use any part of the service.

By creating an account you confirm that you have read and accepted these Terms. We record the version you accepted and the date you accepted it.

We write in plain language on purpose. Where a word like "we", "us" or "LIB" is used, it means the people operating Love in Babylon.

2. Who can join

Love in Babylon is for adults only. You must be 18 or over to create an account or use the service. We ask for your date of birth at sign-up and check it; accounts found to belong to under-18s are removed.

Membership is by application. Creating an account is not the same as being accepted. We review applications and may accept, decline, pause or ask for changes at our discretion.

One person, one account. You may not create an account for someone else, share your account, or hold multiple accounts.

3. Your account and the information you give us

You agree that the information in your profile and application is true, that it describes you, and that you keep it reasonably up to date.

You are responsible for your login details and for activity that happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe someone else has access to it.

  • Use photos that are genuinely of you and recent enough to be honest.
  • Do not misrepresent your age, marital status, identity or intentions.
  • Do not use another member's identity, photos or story as your own.

4. Our Christian context

Love in Babylon is built around Christian values: honesty, respect, patience, and treating people as people rather than options. Members are expected to engage in that spirit.

We do not test, certify or vouch for anyone's faith, church attendance, doctrine or spiritual maturity. What members share about their faith is their own statement, not something we verify. Use your own judgement, and involve the people who know you well.

5. How the service works

Membership gives you access to the parts of LIB that are open to approved members. Each part has its own rhythm and expectations.

  • Discover: see other approved members. Interest you express is private to you until it is returned.
  • Mutual interest: when two members express interest in each other, LIB opens a private Table for Two for them. Nobody is told about one-sided interest.
  • Table for Two: a private text conversation between two members. Treat what is shared there as private.
  • The Courtyard: a shared community space for everyday conversation, not romantic pursuit. Anything you post there is visible to other approved members.
  • The Gathering: curated events created and hosted by LIB. Invitations, capacity and attendance are managed by us.
  • Messaging: text only. Do not use it for advertising, selling, fundraising, or moving people onto other platforms for those purposes.

6. Conduct we expect, and behaviour we do not allow

Speak to people the way you would want someone to speak to your sister or brother. Be clear, be kind, and let people go graciously when interest is not shared.

The following are not allowed anywhere on LIB, and may lead to immediate removal:

  • Harassment, bullying, threats, hate speech, or persistent unwanted contact.
  • Sexual content, nudity, or sexually explicit propositions.
  • Deception, catfishing, impersonation, or pretending to be a member of staff.
  • Fraud, romance scams, requests for money, investment pitches, or financial pressure of any kind.
  • Spam, advertising, recruitment, and mass unsolicited messaging.
  • Collecting, scraping, copying or republishing other members' profiles, photos, messages or content.
  • Attempting to bypass blocks, suspensions, bans, verification, or any technical or safety control.
  • Sharing another member's private information, photos or conversations outside LIB.
  • Any unlawful activity, or any use that puts other members at risk.

7. Meeting people is your decision

Conversations, video calls and meeting in person are entirely your choice and your responsibility. LIB is a place to meet people; it is not a chaperone.

Membership review, email confirmation and our hand review of every profile photograph reduce risk but cannot eliminate it. We do not carry out identity checks, document checks, background checks, criminal record checks or financial checks on members, and no outside verification company is involved.

Please take normal precautions: meet publicly at first, tell someone you trust where you are going, arrange your own transport, and never send money to someone you have met here.

8. Safety, reporting and moderation

You can block any member at any time. Blocking is silent and works both ways across the service. You can report any profile, post, message or event concern to our safety team, and the member you report is not told who reported them.

We review reports and may take action including a warning, hiding or removing content, restricting features, suspending an account, or permanently ending a membership.

If your account is restricted, suspended or ended, you can submit an appeal from within the app and a member of our team will review it. We aim to be fair, but decisions about who may remain in the community are ultimately ours.

9. What we do not promise

We work hard to build a good community, but we cannot promise outcomes. In particular, we do not guarantee:

  • That you will be accepted as a member, or match with anyone.
  • Any number of interests, conversations, introductions or invitations.
  • That any relationship, engagement or marriage will result.
  • The accuracy of anything another member tells you, or their conduct on or off the platform.
  • A place at any Gathering, or that an event will run as planned.
  • That the service will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free.

10. Content you share

You keep ownership of your photos, profile text, posts and messages. You are responsible for what you share and for having the right to share it.

So that the service can work, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and display your content inside Love in Babylon, to the members and staff who are permitted to see it. This licence exists only to run and moderate the service; we do not use it to sell your content or publish it in outside advertising.

The licence ends for new display when you delete the content or your account, allowing for reasonable time to remove copies from backups, and for anything we must keep for safety, moderation or legal reasons.

11. Moderation and removal of content

We may hide, remove or restrict content that breaches these Terms, puts members at risk, or is reported and found to be harmful. Where it is appropriate and safe to do so, we will tell the member concerned.

Photos submitted to your profile are reviewed before they become visible to other members. A photo may be declined with a reason.

12. Our brand and product

The Love in Babylon name, logo, written material, designs, software and the structure of the product belong to us or to our licensors. You may not copy, resell, reproduce or create derivative products from them without our written permission.

You may of course talk about LIB, link to it, and share your own experience.

13. Services we rely on

Like most online services, LIB is built on infrastructure provided by third parties, for example hosting, databases, email delivery and sign-in. Those providers process data on our behalf so the service can run.

Membership payments are handled by Paystack, a specialist payment provider. Your card details are entered on Paystack's own secure checkout: we never see, receive or store them. We keep only a record that a payment was made, its amount, currency, date and reference.

14. Membership fees and payment

Love in Babylon has one membership: USD $15.00 per month. There is no free trial, no application fee, no annual plan and no other tier. Prices are shown before you pay and are stated in US dollars; your bank or card issuer may apply its own conversion or fees.

Applying is free. A fee only becomes due once your application is approved. From approval you have 14 days to make your first payment; if you do not, your approval lapses and you must ask us to reopen it. You will not have to apply again.

Membership renews automatically each month on the anniversary of your first payment, until you cancel. If a renewal payment fails we keep your access open for a further 7 days while we retry. If it still has not been paid at the end of those 7 days, your membership becomes inactive.

While a membership is inactive you can still sign in, use your settings, download your data and close your account, but Discover, Table for Two, the Courtyard, Gatherings and the other member areas are closed to you. Paying again reopens your membership. If more than 90 days have passed, we will carry out a short reactivation review first.

You may cancel at any time from your settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; your membership continues to the end of the period you have already paid for and then closes. There is no paid pause.

Fees are not normally refunded once a billing period has begun. We will refund a duplicate or incorrect charge, and we will honour any refund or cancellation right the law gives you.

We may change the price. If we do, we will tell you in advance and the new price will only apply from your next renewal, so you can cancel first if you would rather not continue.

Payment is currently operating in the payment provider's test mode while we complete our business registration. No real money is taken until that is finished and this section is updated.

15. Changing, pausing or ending your membership

You may close your account at any time from your settings. Closing your account ends your access, removes your profile from Discover and other member-facing areas, and closes any open Table for Two conversations. Closing your account also stops any future payments; it does not refund the period you are in.

Some records are kept after closure where we need them, for example safety reports, moderation decisions, the record of which policy versions you accepted, and membership and payment history. Section 12 of our Privacy Policy sets out exactly how long each of those is kept.

We may suspend or end a membership where these Terms are breached, where there is a risk to members, where we are required to, or where an account has been dormant for a long period.

16. Changes to the service

Love in Babylon is being built and improved. We may add, change, pause or withdraw features. Where a change materially affects how you use the service, we will give reasonable notice.

17. Liability

The service is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for the conduct of members, for content members share, for loss or damage that was not reasonably foreseeable, or for indirect losses such as lost opportunity.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes rights that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including rights you may have as a consumer, and liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraud.

18. Governing law and disputes

Love in Babylon is operated with members in the United Kingdom and Nigeria in mind.

We will not name a jurisdiction or an entity we have not formally established, so these details are held as explicit placeholders until they are real: operating legal entity: [Legal entity name to be inserted before launch]; registered address: [Registered address to be inserted before launch]; company registration number: [Company registration number to be inserted before launch]; governing law and courts: [Governing law and courts to be inserted before launch]. All of these will be stated here before public launch.

Until then, nothing in these Terms takes away the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live.

If something goes wrong, please raise it with us first. Most concerns can be resolved directly and quickly.

19. Changes to these Terms

Each version of these Terms carries a version identifier, shown at the top of this page. When you accept them, we record which version you accepted and when.

If we make material changes we will notify members in the app and by email before the new version takes effect, and you will be asked to accept the new version. Minor corrections that do not change your rights may be made without notice.

20. Contact

Members: the Safety Centre inside your account reaches our safety team directly, and it is the only route that genuinely reaches a person today.

We do not yet operate a public enquiry inbox, and we would rather say so than collect messages nobody reads. A monitored address ([Monitored support address to be inserted before launch]) will be published here and on our contact page before public launch.
